View Data Notes and How These Figures Were Calculated

These figures combine annual premiums from Reliable Insurance Brokers’ book of business for customers located in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. They are intended to provide a local point of reference and are not an official market average or a guaranteed quote.

The combined auto figures use 110 valid personal auto policy groups , covering 155 vehicle exposures and 108 auto households . The average cost per vehicle was calculated using the combined premiums and vehicle counts from all three cities rather than simply averaging the three city averages.

The residential insurance figure uses 60 households with home, condo, tenant or related residential property coverage. The combined home-and-auto figure uses 54 households that had both personal auto and residential insurance.

The lowest displayed example was a one-vehicle personal auto policy with an annual premium of $722 . It should not be interpreted as a starting price or an amount available to every driver.

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, quote-only entries, and policies outside personal auto and residential insurance were excluded. Multi-vehicle policies were counted using the valid insured vehicle lines associated with each policy.

Actual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the address, vehicle, licensed drivers, years of driving experience, tickets, accidents, claims history, annual kilometres, vehicle use, coverage, deductibles, discounts, insurer rules and eligibility.

Why Drivers in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge Pay Different Auto Insurance Rates

Two drivers living in the same Waterloo Region neighbourhood can receive very different car insurance prices. Insurance companies consider your address, vehicle, driving experience, tickets, accidents, annual kilometres, vehicle use, coverage choices and available discounts when calculating your premium. Each insurer also weighs these details differently, which is why comparing quotes can uncover meaningful savings.

Your Address Is Only One Part of Your Insurance Price

Your Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge postal code can affect your rate because insurers review claims and driving patterns in different areas. However, your personal driving record, the vehicle you insure, how far you drive, where the vehicle is parked and the coverage you select can be just as important. Even members of the same household may receive different rates based on their individual driver and vehicle details.

Insurance Companies Do Not All Charge the Same Price

One insurer may offer better pricing for an experienced driver, while another may be more competitive for a newer vehicle, a multi-vehicle household or a home-and-auto bundle. Available group, occupation, claims-free, winter tire and other discounts can also vary between companies. Comparing several insurers gives you a better chance of finding the right combination of price, coverage and deductible.

Nick Compares the Options for You

Nick King can review your current insurance, ask about the discounts you may qualify for and compare available auto insurance options for Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge drivers. You receive clear advice from a broker who can help you understand the differences before you choose a policy.

Ontario Auto Insurance Reform

Ontario Auto Insurance Coverage Changed in 2026

Ontario drivers now have more choice over certain accident benefits. While this can provide greater flexibility, it also makes it important to understand what is included in your policy, which benefits are optional and what may be missing from a lower-priced quote. Nick King can help Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge drivers compare both the price and the protection before choosing a policy.

Some Accident Benefits May Not Be Automatically Included

Medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits remain mandatory, but several other accident benefits can be optional. Depending on the choices available, this may include income replacement, caregiver, housekeeping and home maintenance, non-earner, dependant care, death, funeral and other accident-related benefits.

A Lower Price May Also Mean Less Protection

A less expensive Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge auto insurance quote may look attractive, but some optional benefits may have been reduced, removed or left out. Two policies with similar prices can provide very different financial protection after a serious accident, so it is important to compare more than the premium.

Review Your Options With Nick Before You Choose

Your income, family responsibilities, dependants, workplace health benefits, disability insurance, household responsibilities and financial obligations can all affect which optional accident benefits are worth considering. Nick can explain the available choices and help you understand how reducing a benefit could affect you and your family.

Be Careful Before Reducing Your Auto Insurance Coverage

Some auto insurance policies may appear less expensive because optional benefits have been reduced or removed. Before choosing a policy, make sure you understand what is included, which benefits are optional and what financial protection you may be giving up after a serious accident. Nick King can help you compare the coverage and the price together.

Waterloo Region Winter Tire Discount

Winter Tires Can Help Lower Your Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge Auto Insurance

Winter weather across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge can bring snow, freezing rain, slush and sudden temperature changes. Whether you are driving on local streets, Highway 401, Highway 8 or the Conestoga Parkway, dependable winter traction matters. Many Ontario insurance companies offer a discount when approved winter tires are installed and meet their requirements.

Beyond the potential insurance savings, winter tires are designed to provide better grip and braking performance in cold conditions. They can also extend the useful life of your all-season tires by taking them out of service during the winter months.

Winter Tire Discounts

Installing approved winter tires on all four wheels may help Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge drivers qualify for an auto insurance discount.

Better Cold-Weather Control

Improved traction in snow, slush and icy conditions can help you maintain better control during difficult Waterloo Region winter driving.

Compare Your Rate With Nick

Nick King can compare available auto insurance quotes and confirm which winter tire, multi-vehicle, bundle and other discounts may apply.

How Postal Codes Affect Auto Insurance in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge

Your address is one of the details insurance companies use when calculating your car insurance price. A move across Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge can place your vehicle in a different postal-code rating area , and different insurers may price that area differently.

Your postal code is not the whole quote. Your vehicle, driving record, coverage, discounts, parking and commute distance and annual kilometres can also affect what you pay. That is why two neighbours can receive different prices, and why comparing several insurance companies can matter.

How the Figures Were Calculated

A personal auto policy group was identified using the customer number, policy number, policy type, effective date and full-term premium. Vehicle count was based on the number of valid vehicle lines belonging to the policy group. The raw vehicle number shown on a policy was not treated as the number of insured vehicles.

The annual premium per vehicle was calculated by dividing the policy premium by the valid vehicle-line count. The average for each postal-code area was calculated by dividing the total deduplicated auto premium by the total valid vehicle count for that area.

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, records identified as quotes, and records outside valid Ontario personal auto insurance were excluded. Duplicate vehicle lines belonging to the same policy group were not treated as separate policy premiums.

Important Limitations

These are not standardized quotes for an identical driver. Each postal-code area contains a different mix of vehicles, drivers, coverage limits, deductibles, claims histories, discounts, annual kilometres, parking arrangements and household details. The figures should not be used to calculate the isolated effect of moving from one postal code to another.

Actual premiums may be higher or lower. Your price depends on your complete address, drivers, vehicles, claims, convictions, insurance history, vehicle use, annual kilometres, coverage, deductibles, discounts, insurer eligibility and underwriting rules.

What Do These Numbers Mean for You?

These are real local customer costs, but they are not advertised starting prices and they are not quotes for the same driver. The lowest examples and the averages belong to different households with different vehicles, drivers and coverage.

The useful takeaway is that local prices can vary considerably. A quote based on your own address, vehicle, driving record and coverage is the only reliable way to find out which available insurer is most competitive for you.

What Nick Reviews Before Recommending an Auto Insurance Policy

Nick compares more than the monthly payment. He reviews the details that can affect both your price and the protection provided by the policy.

Address and Postal Code

A move within Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge can change how insurance companies price your postal-code area .

Commute and Vehicle Use

Working from home, changing jobs or driving fewer kilometres can affect how your commute and annual vehicle use should be shown on the policy.

Household Vehicles

Nick can review all household drivers and vehicles together so eligible multi-car and household savings are not overlooked.

Coverage and Deductibles

Price should be considered alongside liability limits, deductibles, collision and comprehensive coverage , and other optional protection.

Compare the Whole Household Together

Quoting one vehicle by itself may miss savings available when household vehicles and property insurance are reviewed together. Keeping eligible vehicles with the same insurer may help preserve multi-vehicle discount opportunities , while combining auto with home, condo or tenant insurance may create additional bundle savings.

Definitions Used in the Data

A valid personal auto policy group represents one personal auto policy after vehicle lines belonging to the same policy were grouped together using the customer number, policy number, policy type, effective date and full-term premium.

A vehicle exposure represents one valid insured vehicle line associated with a personal auto policy. A policy covering several vehicles can therefore represent one policy group and several vehicle exposures.

How the Cost Per Vehicle Was Calculated

For each policy group, the full annual policy premium was divided by the number of valid insured vehicle lines associated with that policy. The average for each city was calculated by dividing the total valid personal auto premium by the total number of vehicle exposures in that city.

The lowest annual cost per vehicle is the lowest valid policy-level premium-per-vehicle result found for the applicable city. The displayed difference is the city average minus the lowest customer example. The percentage shows how far the lowest example was below that average.

Data Period

The policy effective dates represented in this comparison range from May 31, 2025 to May 29, 2026.

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, quote-only entries and records outside valid Ontario personal auto insurance were excluded. Duplicate vehicle lines associated with the same policy group were not treated as separate full policy premiums.

Important Limitations

These are not standardized quotes for an identical driver. The policies represented can involve different drivers, vehicles, addresses, insurance companies, driving histories, claims, convictions, annual kilometres, commute distances, coverage limits, deductibles, discounts and household arrangements.

The figures describe Reliable Insurance Brokers’ local customer data and are not official market averages, advertised starting premiums or guaranteed quotes. Actual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the applicant, insurer eligibility, rating rules and underwriting requirements.

What Determines Your Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge Car Insurance Rate?

Your car insurance price is based on much more than your address. The vehicle you choose , your driving record , postal-code rating area , driving experience, commute and annual kilometres , coverage, deductibles and available discounts can all affect what you pay in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

Select any card below to see how one change can affect an insurance quote. Nick King can then compare your actual information with available insurance companies.

Your Vehicle

Two vehicles can produce very different insurance prices, even when the driver and coverage are similar.

Your Driving Record

Tickets and at-fault accidents can affect your price and the insurance companies available to you.

Your Postal Code

Auto insurance prices can differ between Kitchener and Cambridge postal-code areas, but your address is only one part of the quote.

Your Driving Experience

Licensing history and years of driving experience can have a major impact on auto insurance pricing.

How You Use Your Vehicle

Your commute, annual kilometres and business or personal use can affect how an insurer prices your vehicle.

Your Coverage Options

Removing coverage can reduce the premium, but it can also leave you responsible for damage to your own vehicle.

Your Deductible

A higher deductible may reduce your premium, but it also increases what you may need to pay after a covered claim.

Your Available Discounts

The right combination of discounts can reduce your premium without forcing you to remove important coverage.

How to Read These Insurance Examples

Illustrative Quote Comparisons

The vehicle, driving record, driving experience, vehicle use, coverage, deductible and discount cards use illustrative insurance examples. They are intended to demonstrate how changing a rating or coverage detail can affect a premium. They are not advertised starting prices, guaranteed premiums or personalized quotes for every Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge driver.

Some comparisons keep the described vehicle and coverage similar while changing the highlighted factor. Other comparisons may also involve different insurer pricing or discount eligibility. They should therefore be used as educational examples rather than as a precise prediction of how much one individual change will affect every policy.

Local Postal-Code Examples

The postal-code card uses observed annual costs per vehicle from Reliable Insurance Brokers customers. The Kitchener N2E figures use 16 valid personal auto policy groups and 23 vehicle exposures. The Cambridge N3C figures use 4 valid personal auto policy groups and 11 vehicle exposures.

These are different customer groups. They include different drivers, vehicles, insurers, coverage limits, deductibles, claims histories, discounts, annual kilometres and household arrangements. The observed difference cannot be attributed to postal code alone.

Your Actual Quote May Be Different

Your actual premium may be higher or lower depending on your complete address, vehicle, vehicle identification number, licensed drivers, driving and insurance history, convictions, accidents, claims, commute, annual kilometres, vehicle use, parking, coverage, deductibles, endorsements, household vehicles, discounts, insurer eligibility and underwriting rules.

Insurance information on this page is provided for general educational purposes. Review your own quote, application, declarations page, endorsements and policy wording with a licensed insurance professional before changing coverage or relying on a discount.

Claims-free history, qualifying monitored alarm systems , a mortgage-free home and eligible water-protection features may help improve your home insurance price, depending on the insurer.

Compare More Than the Price

Nick can help you compare rebuild coverage, personal belongings, liability limits, deductibles, exclusions and important sewer backup and overland water coverage . A lower price may not be the better option if valuable protection has been reduced or removed.

Your Insurance Score Could Affect Your Home Insurance Cost in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge

Many homeowners, condo owners and tenants do not realize that some property insurers may use a credit-based insurance score , with your permission, when pricing home, condo or tenant insurance. Depending on the insurer and your individual profile, this may help you qualify for a more competitive premium.

If you have been with the same insurance company for several years, it may be worth comparing your Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge home insurance before renewal. Your current insurer may not have insurance score consent on file, or the information used when the policy was first quoted may not reflect an improved credit profile.

Your insurance score is only one part of the price. Claims history, rebuilding cost, deductible choices, available discounts, sewer backup and overland water coverage , home safety features and mortgage-free status can also affect the final premium.

Loyalty Does Not Always Mean You Are Getting the Best Home Insurance Value

Staying with the same insurer can feel convenient, but your current price and coverage may no longer reflect your situation. Nick can compare today’s market, review whether an insurance score discount may apply and determine whether another insurer offers better overall value. Why Your Home Insurance Quote May Be Higher or Lower

Your actual price depends on your property and the protection you choose. Nick can compare the full policy, not just the annual premium.

Your Home and Rebuild Details

Property size, age, construction, roof, heating, plumbing, renovations and local rebuilding costs can affect the amount needed to insure the house. Learn why rebuild cost and replacement coverage should be reviewed carefully.

Water Protection and Claims

Previous claims, basement exposure, sump pumps, backwater valves, deductibles and sewer backup and overland water coverage can all influence the price and protection offered.

Discounts and Household Policies

Claims-free history, home safety systems, mortgage-free status, insurance score eligibility and combining home and auto may create savings. Review the Insurance Savings Hub to see which discounts may be worth asking Nick about.

These Are Local Customer Averages, Not Starting Prices

Your quote may be higher or lower based on your exact property, location, occupancy, rebuilding cost, claims, coverage, deductible, discounts and insurer eligibility. The best way to know what your home, condo or tenant insurance will cost is to compare quotes using your own information.

About This Local Dataset

These figures were calculated from Reliable Insurance Brokers’ book of business for customers located in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. The results use 60 residential insurance households with positive, valid habitational premiums.

The effective dates represented in the dataset range from to .

How the Home and Condo or Tenant Estimates Were Created

The source data identifies these policies broadly as Habitational and does not consistently identify whether each policy is for a detached home, townhouse, condominium or tenant. To create a more useful consumer comparison, annual premiums below $550 were treated as more likely to be condo or tenant insurance. Annual premiums of $550 or more were treated as more likely to be home insurance.

This classification is an estimate. It may not correctly identify every individual policy and should not be treated as a formal policy-type classification.

Calculation Method

Habitational premiums were grouped separately from auto insurance. Duplicate policy lines belonging to the same valid habitational policy group were consolidated, and the positive annual premium was counted once. The overall and city averages were calculated by dividing the combined valid residential premium by the applicable number of residential households.

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal premiums, rows where the policy number contained the word QUOTE, and rows outside valid habitational insurance were excluded.

Important Limitations

These are not standardized quotes for identical properties. The policies represented may involve different property types, rebuilding costs, locations, construction, ages, roofs, plumbing, heating systems, occupancy, claims histories, coverage limits, deductibles, water endorsements, insurance scores, discounts and insurers.

The city and postal-area figures describe Reliable Insurance Brokers’ local customer data. They are not official market averages and should not be used to determine the isolated effect of a city or postal code. Areas with very few households can change significantly when one policy is added or removed.

Actual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the property, applicant, coverage choices, insurer eligibility and underwriting requirements.

Moving to Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge? Bring Your Driving and Insurance History

If you are moving to Waterloo Region from another province, the United States or another country, the documents you bring may help some insurance companies recognize your previous driving and insurance experience. Before starting your auto insurance quote with Nick King, try to collect your driving abstract, previous insurance letters, claims history, licence documents and policy details where available.

Our New to Ontario Auto Insurance Guide explains what to collect, how previous insurance experience may affect your first Ontario quote and why licence-exchange documents are not always the same as the documents an insurance company needs. Nick can review your situation before you spend money ordering or translating records that may not help with the available insurers.

Driving abstract Letters of experience Claims history Policy dates and details Licence documents

Insurance Quote Documents and Licence-Exchange Documents Are Different

A letter from a previous insurer may help an insurance company recognize your prior history, but Ontario licence-exchange documents generally need to come from accepted licensing or government sources. The two processes may require different records.

Before paying for driving records, insurance letters or translations, ask Nick which documents are likely to help with the insurance companies available to you.

Make Sure Your Previous Experience Is Being Recognized

A clean driving record can still be priced differently from one insurance company to another. Nick can review how much prior driving and insurance history each available company is recognizing and whether another insurer may rate your experience more favourably. Learn more in our Good Driver Discount guide .

Information is provided for general guidance only. Recognition of previous driving or insurance experience, required documents, translations, star ratings, premiums and eligibility vary by insurance company, country, licence history, claims history, driver profile, address, vehicle, coverage and underwriting rules. Confirm current Ontario licence-exchange requirements with the appropriate Ontario licensing authority. Nick King can help review which documents may be useful for your insurance quote.

Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge Auto Insurance FAQs

How much does auto insurance cost in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge?

Among our Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge customers, the average auto insurance cost was approximately $2,362 per insured vehicle per year, or about $197 per month. Some customers paid considerably less, while others paid more.

This is a local customer average, not an advertised starting price or a guaranteed quote. Your actual premium depends on your address, vehicle, drivers, insurance history, claims, coverage, deductibles, annual kilometres and available discounts. Review our Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge insurance cost comparison for more local examples and complete data notes.

Does my Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge postal code affect my car insurance rate?

Yes. Insurance companies consider local claims experience and other location-related information when pricing auto insurance. Moving to a different part of Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge can therefore change how different insurers rate your vehicle.

Your postal code is only one part of the quote. Your vehicle, driving history, annual kilometres, commute, parking, coverage and discounts also matter. You can use our Ontario Postal Code Affordability Tool as a general comparison before requesting a personalized quote.

Is auto insurance mandatory in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge?

Yes. Every vehicle driven on Ontario roads must have valid Ontario auto insurance. A standard policy includes third-party liability, statutory accident benefits, uninsured automobile coverage and direct compensation-property damage coverage, commonly called DCPD.

Ontario drivers can elect in writing not to recover under DCPD, so it should not be treated as mandatory coverage. Before removing or reducing protection, review what the coverage does and how much financial risk you would accept personally. Our Ontario auto liability coverage guide explains the foundation of an auto insurance policy.

What changed with Ontario auto insurance accident benefits in 2026?

For policies entered into on or after July 1, 2026, medical, rehabilitation and attendant care remain mandatory accident benefits. Other benefits, including income replacement, non-earner, caregiver, housekeeping and home maintenance, death and funeral benefits, can be optional.

A lower-priced policy may provide less protection if optional benefits have not been selected. Nick can help you compare both the price and the coverage before you make a decision. Read our Ontario Optional Accident Benefits Guide for a more complete explanation.

How can I lower my auto insurance premium in Waterloo Region?

Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge drivers may be able to reduce their premiums by maintaining a clean driving record, accurately reporting their commute and annual kilometres, installing approved winter tires, combining household vehicles, bundling home and auto insurance, reviewing deductibles and checking whether group or occupation discounts apply.

The best savings opportunities vary by insurer, so Nick can review your household rather than relying on one general discount. Visit the Insurance Savings Learning Hub to explore available auto and home insurance discounts.

Is it cheaper to bundle home and auto insurance?

Often, but not always. Many insurance companies offer a discount when your home, condo or tenant insurance and auto insurance are placed together. Households with multiple vehicles may also qualify for a multi-vehicle discount.

Nick can compare the total household cost and confirm that the home and auto policies still provide appropriate coverage. The lowest auto price by itself may not create the lowest overall household insurance cost.

Can University Health Network employees receive a group discount?

Eligible University Health Network employees may qualify for an exclusive 23% auto insurance discount through Reliable Insurance Brokers. Program eligibility, driver eligibility and insurer underwriting requirements still apply.

Contact Nick and mention that you work for UHN so he can confirm your eligibility and compare the group rate with the other available insurance options.

Can Nick help if I am moving to Ontario from another province or country?

Yes. Previous driving and insurance documents may help some insurance companies recognize your experience. Useful records can include a driving abstract, letters from previous insurers, policy dates, claims history and government-issued licensing documents.

Insurance-company requirements and Ontario licence-exchange requirements are not always the same. Review our New to Ontario Auto Insurance Guide before ordering or translating documents, and ask Nick which records are likely to help with your quote.

Why should I compare auto insurance companies?

Insurance companies do not all price the same driver, vehicle or postal code the same way. One company may be more competitive for an experienced driver, while another may offer better pricing for a particular vehicle, household bundle, group program or coverage combination.

Nick can compare options from the insurance companies available through Reliable Insurance Brokers and explain the important differences in price, coverage, deductibles and discounts.
