Communities Represented in This Chatham-Kent Study

These figures combine annual premiums from Reliable Insurance Brokers’ customer data for Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury, Thamesville and Bothwell. These communities are within the Chatham-Kent service area, but the results should not be treated as an official average for every resident or every community in the municipality.

Ridgetown, Dresden, Wheatley and several other Chatham-Kent communities were not included because the cleaned source did not contain qualifying records for those locations. Their absence does not mean insurance is unavailable there or that their prices would be the same as the represented communities.

The policy effective dates represented in the combined personal auto and residential sample range from through .

Bothwell 1 1 $5,181 $5,181 0 0
Combined Represented Communities 18 23 $1,447 $2,423 8 $1,847 7

How the Auto Figures Were Calculated

The combined auto figures use 18 valid personal auto policy groups , covering 23 vehicle exposures and 17 auto households . Auto premium per vehicle was calculated by dividing the total valid annual auto premium by the total valid vehicle exposures. The six community averages were not simply averaged together equally.

How the Residential and Combined Figures Were Calculated

The residential insurance figure uses eight households with home, condo, tenant or related residential property coverage. The combined home-and-auto figure uses seven households that had both personal auto and residential insurance.

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, quote-only entries and policies outside personal auto and residential insurance were excluded. Multi-vehicle policies were counted using the valid insured vehicle lines associated with each policy group.

Important Limitations

The sample is relatively small, particularly for Blenheim, Bothwell, Thamesville and Tilbury. One additional high- or low-cost policy could materially change a community result. These figures should therefore be read as examples from Reliable Insurance Brokers’ local customers, not broad municipal market averages.

These are not standardized quotes for an identical driver or property. The policies represented may involve different addresses, vehicles, drivers, insurance companies, claims histories, annual kilometres, coverage limits, deductibles, discounts, property types and household arrangements.

Actual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the applicant, address, vehicle, licensed drivers, driving experience, tickets, accidents, claims, property details, occupancy, coverage selections, discounts, insurer eligibility and underwriting rules.

Aviva accounts for 2 of the 18 valid personal-auto policy groups, representing approximately 11% of the local sample.

T-#2
PAFCO Insurance logo

PAFCO is also represented by 2 valid personal-auto policy groups, giving it the same approximate 11% share as Aviva and Definity.

The company used most often by other Chatham-Kent drivers will not automatically be the least expensive or best insurer for you. Aviva, Definity and PAFCO are tied for second in this local sample. Your actual rate depends on your address, vehicle, driving history, claims, coverage, deductibles, discounts and whether you insure your home and vehicles together.

About This Chatham-Kent Insurer Placement Dataset

This ranking is based on 18 valid personal-auto policy groups for Reliable Insurance Brokers customers in the represented Chatham-Kent communities.

The local total includes 8 policy groups in Chatham , 4 in Wallaceburg , 2 in Tilbury , 2 in Thamesville , 1 in Blenheim and 1 in Bothwell .

A policy group represents one valid personal-auto policy after duplicate vehicle lines belonging to that policy were combined. The following table shows the complete insurer-family distribution used for the customer-facing cards above.

Chatham-Kent Personal Auto Placements by Insurer Family
Insurer Family Policy Groups Share
Intact 11 61.1%
Aviva 2 11.1%
Definity 2 11.1%
PAFCO 2 11.1%
Jevco 1 5.6%
Total 18 100.0%

How Insurer Programs Were Grouped

Affiliated and branded programs were combined under their principal insurer family. The Intact total includes Intact-branded policies, Intact CKHA group policies and the represented Intact ESM program. Aviva, Definity, PAFCO and Jevco were each retained as separate insurer families.

Data Period and Exclusions

The policy effective dates represented in these local figures range from through .

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, quote-only entries and policies outside valid Ontario personal-auto insurance were excluded. Duplicate vehicle lines associated with the same policy group were not treated as separate policy placements.

Important Limitations

This is a small local customer sample. One additional policy would change the displayed placement share by approximately 5.6 percentage points. The figures should therefore be treated as a description of the represented Reliable Insurance Brokers customers rather than a broad Chatham-Kent market-share study.

These figures are not official Ontario market-share statistics. Reliable Insurance Brokers represents a selected group of insurance companies and does not represent every insurer operating in Ontario.

This ranking does not identify the cheapest insurer for every driver and does not guarantee a quote, premium or acceptance. Insurance pricing and eligibility depend on the driver, vehicle, address, coverage, deductibles, claims history, discounts and insurer underwriting requirements.

Why Chatham-Kent Drivers Pay Different Auto Insurance Rates

Two drivers living in the same Chatham-Kent community can receive very different car insurance prices. Insurance companies consider your address, vehicle, driving experience, tickets, accidents, claims history, annual kilometres, vehicle use, coverage choices and available discounts when calculating your premium. Each insurer weighs these details differently, which is why comparing quotes can uncover meaningful differences in both price and coverage.

Your Address Is Only One Part of Your Insurance Price

Your Chatham-Kent postal code can affect your rate because insurers divide Ontario into rating territories and review claims experience in different areas. However, your personal driving record, the vehicle you insure, how far you drive, where the vehicle is parked and the coverage you choose can be just as important. Even drivers living at the same address may receive different rates based on their individual driver and vehicle details.

Insurance Companies Do Not All Charge the Same Price

One insurer may offer more competitive pricing for an experienced driver, while another may be a better fit for a newer vehicle, multi-vehicle household, home-and-auto bundle or particular driver profile. Group, occupation, claims-free, winter tire and other discounts can also vary between companies. The insurer used most frequently by other local customers will not automatically be the least expensive insurer for you. Review our Chatham-Kent auto insurer placement data or see the insurance companies available through Reliable Insurance Brokers .

Ontario Auto Insurance Reform

Ontario Auto Insurance Accident Benefits Changed on July 1, 2026

Ontario drivers now have more choice over which accident benefits are included in their auto insurance policies. Standard medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits remain mandatory, while other accident benefits can be selected or declined. Fred Pletsch can help Chatham-Kent drivers compare both the premium and the protection before choosing or changing a policy.

Only Certain Accident Benefits Remain Mandatory

Standard medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits continue to be included in Ontario auto insurance policies. Higher limits for these benefits remain available as optional coverage.

Other accident benefits can now be optional, including income replacement, non-earner, caregiver, housekeeping and home maintenance, lost educational expenses, visitor expenses, damage to certain personal items, death, funeral, dependant care and indexation benefits. Available options and limits can vary by insurer.

A Lower Price May Also Mean Fewer Benefits

A less expensive Chatham-Kent auto insurance quote may look attractive, but some optional accident benefits may have been reduced, declined or left out. Two policies with similar premiums can provide very different financial support after a serious accident.

Before comparing prices, confirm which accident benefits are included, which limits apply and which benefits have not been selected. The lowest premium may not provide the level of protection you expected.

Review Your Accident Benefits With Fred

Your income, employment benefits, disability insurance, family responsibilities, dependants, household duties and financial obligations can all affect which optional accident benefits are worth considering.

Fred can explain the available choices, compare options from participating insurance companies and help you understand how declining a benefit could affect you or another covered person before you make a decision.

Be Careful Before Reducing Your Auto Insurance Coverage

Some policies may appear less expensive because optional accident benefits have not been selected. Before accepting a quote, make sure you understand what is included, what has been declined and what financial protection you could be giving up after an accident.

Existing policies generally renew with the same accident benefit selections and limits unless changes are agreed to in writing. Do not assume that your existing coverage has disappeared, or that a new quote automatically includes the same benefits as your current policy.

For a more detailed explanation of the reform, benefit categories and coverage choices, read our Ontario Optional Accident Benefits Guide .

Information is provided for general educational purposes only and does not constitute individualized insurance advice. Accident benefit availability, eligibility, limits, definitions and optional coverage choices may vary by insurer and policy. Always review your insurance documents and speak with a licensed insurance professional before declining, reducing or changing coverage. Fred Pletsch can help Chatham-Kent drivers review available options through Reliable Insurance Brokers.

Chatham-Kent Winter Tire Discount

Winter Tires Can Help Lower Your Chatham-Kent Auto Insurance

Winter weather across Chatham-Kent can bring snow, freezing rain, slush and sudden temperature changes. Whether you are driving in Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury, on Highway 401, Highway 40 or rural roads throughout the municipality, dependable cold-weather traction matters. Many Ontario insurance companies offer a discount when approved winter tires are installed on all four wheels and their eligibility requirements are met.

Beyond the potential insurance savings, winter tires are designed to provide better grip, handling and braking performance in cold conditions. Using winter tires can also help extend the useful life of your all-season tires by taking them out of service during the colder months.

Winter Tire Discounts

Installing approved winter tires on all four wheels may help Chatham-Kent drivers qualify for an auto insurance discount. Eligibility, installation periods and documentation requirements can vary by insurance company.

Better Cold-Weather Control

Improved traction in snow, slush, ice and freezing conditions can help you maintain better control on Chatham-Kent streets, rural roads and highways throughout the winter.

Compare Available Discounts

Fred Pletsch can compare available auto insurance quotes and check which winter tire, multi-vehicle, home-and-auto bundle, CKHA employee and other discounts may apply.

How Postal Codes Affect Auto Insurance in Chatham-Kent

Your address is one of the details insurance companies use when calculating your car insurance price. Moving within Chatham-Kent can place your vehicle in a different postal-code rating area , and different insurers may price that address differently.

Your postal code is not the whole quote. Your vehicle, driving record, coverage, discounts, parking and commute distance and annual kilometres can also affect what you pay. That is why neighbours can receive different prices and why comparing several insurance companies can matter.

About This Local Postal-Code Dataset

These figures are based on valid personal auto policies written through Reliable Insurance Brokers for customers located in Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Bothwell, Tilbury and Thamesville. The dataset contains 18 valid personal auto policy groups and 23 vehicle exposures .

The policy effective dates represented in the dataset range from to . The figures describe Reliable Insurance Brokers customers and are not official Chatham-Kent or Ontario market averages.

The three public-facing cards use the represented postal-code areas with the highest number of valid vehicle exposures: N0P with nine, Chatham N7L with five and Wallaceburg N8A with five. Chatham N7M, represented by four vehicle exposures, remains included in the complete table and combined totals.

Combined Represented Areas All Listed Areas 18 23 $1,447 $2,423

How the Figures Were Calculated

A valid personal auto policy group represents one personal auto policy after vehicle lines belonging to the same policy were grouped using the customer number, policy number, policy type, effective date and full-term premium.

A vehicle exposure represents one valid insured vehicle line associated with a personal auto policy. A policy covering several vehicles can therefore represent one policy group and several vehicle exposures.

The annual premium per vehicle was calculated by dividing each policy's full annual premium by its valid vehicle-line count. The average for each postal-code area was calculated by dividing the total deduplicated personal auto premium by the total valid vehicle exposures in that area.

The combined average was calculated from the total valid premium and total vehicle exposures across all represented areas. The four area averages were not simply averaged together equally.

How the N0P Area Was Combined

N0P is represented in this dataset by customers in Blenheim, Bothwell, Tilbury and Thamesville. Because these communities share the same forward sortation area, their valid personal auto records were combined into one N0P row for the postal-code analysis. This avoids presenting one FSA as several separate postal-code areas.

Other Chatham-Kent communities may also use N0P or another postal-code area, but they were not added unless qualifying records appeared in the cleaned source data. The absence of a community does not mean insurance is unavailable there.

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, records identified as quotes and records outside valid Ontario personal auto insurance were excluded. Duplicate vehicle lines belonging to the same policy group were not treated as separate full policy premiums.

Important Limitations

This is a small local customer sample. One additional high- or low-cost policy could materially change an area's result, particularly in N7M and the individual communities combined within N0P.

These are not standardized quotes for an identical driver. Each postal-code area contains a different mix of vehicles, drivers, insurance companies, coverage limits, deductibles, claims histories, discounts, annual kilometres, parking arrangements and household details. The figures should not be used to calculate the isolated effect of moving from one postal code to another.

A forward sortation area uses only the first three characters of a postal code. Insurers may use your complete address, their own rating territories and additional location information when calculating a premium.

Actual premiums may be higher or lower. Your price depends on your complete address, drivers, vehicles, claims, convictions, insurance history, vehicle use, annual kilometres, coverage, deductibles, discounts, insurer eligibility and underwriting rules.

What Do These Numbers Mean for You?

These are real local customer costs, but they are not advertised starting prices and they are not quotes for the same driver. The lowest examples and the averages belong to different households with different vehicles, drivers, insurance companies, coverage and discounts.

The useful takeaway is that local prices can vary considerably. A quote based on your own address, vehicle, driving record and coverage is the only reliable way to find out which available insurer is most competitive for you.

The public N0P card combines Blenheim, Bothwell, Tilbury and Thamesville because those represented communities share the same forward sortation area. The full table below keeps each community separate so the source figures remain transparent.

What Fred Reviews Before Recommending an Auto Insurance Policy

Fred compares more than the monthly payment. He reviews the details that can affect both your price and the protection provided by the policy.

Address and Postal Code

A move within Chatham-Kent can change how insurance companies price your postal-code area .

Commute and Vehicle Use

Working from home, changing jobs or driving fewer kilometres can affect how your commute and annual vehicle use should be shown on the policy.

Household Vehicles and Discounts

Fred can review all household drivers and vehicles together and check whether multi-vehicle, home-and-auto, winter tire, group or CKHA employee discounts may apply.

Coverage and Deductibles

Price should be considered alongside liability limits, deductibles, collision and comprehensive coverage , accident benefits and other optional protection.

Compare the Whole Household Together

Quoting one vehicle by itself may miss savings available when household vehicles and property insurance are reviewed together. Keeping eligible vehicles with the same insurer may help preserve multi-vehicle discount opportunities , while combining auto with home, condo or tenant insurance may create additional bundle savings.

These figures were calculated from Reliable Insurance Brokers customer data where the cleaned community field was Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Bothwell, Tilbury or Thamesville. The dataset contains 18 valid personal auto policy groups covering 23 vehicle exposures .

The combined average was calculated from the total valid annual premium and total vehicle exposures across all six represented communities. The six community averages were not simply averaged together equally.

Definitions Used in the Data

A valid personal auto policy group represents one personal auto policy after vehicle lines belonging to the same policy were grouped together using the customer number, policy number, policy type, effective date and full-term premium.

A vehicle exposure represents one valid insured vehicle line associated with a personal auto policy. A policy covering several vehicles can therefore represent one policy group and several vehicle exposures.

How the Cost Per Vehicle Was Calculated

For each policy group, the full annual policy premium was divided by the number of valid insured vehicle lines associated with that policy. The average for each community was calculated by dividing the total valid personal auto premium by the total number of vehicle exposures in that community.

The lowest annual cost per vehicle is the lowest valid policy-level premium-per-vehicle result found for the applicable area. The displayed difference is the area average minus the lowest customer example. The percentage shows how far the lowest example was below that average.

Small-Sample Limitations

Blenheim and Bothwell are each represented by one valid policy group and one vehicle exposure. Tilbury and Thamesville are each represented by two policy groups. One additional high- or low-cost policy could materially change those community results.

A difference of zero for Blenheim or Bothwell does not mean all drivers there pay the same price. It only means the lowest and average are the same when a community is represented by one policy group and one vehicle exposure.

Data Period

The policy effective dates represented in this comparison range from to .

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal entries, quote-only entries and records outside valid Ontario personal auto insurance were excluded. Duplicate vehicle lines associated with the same policy group were not treated as separate full policy premiums.

Important Limitations

These are not standardized quotes for an identical driver. The policies represented can involve different drivers, vehicles, addresses, insurance companies, driving histories, claims, convictions, annual kilometres, commute distances, coverage limits, deductibles, discounts and household arrangements.

The figures describe Reliable Insurance Brokers local customer data and are not official Chatham-Kent or Ontario market averages, advertised starting premiums or guaranteed quotes. Actual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the applicant, insurer eligibility, rating rules and underwriting requirements.

What Determines Your Chatham-Kent Car Insurance Rate?

Your car insurance price is based on much more than your address. The vehicle you choose , your driving record , postal-code rating area , driving experience, commute and annual kilometres , coverage, deductibles and available discounts can all affect what you pay throughout Chatham-Kent.

Select any card below to see how one change can affect an insurance quote. Fred Pletsch can then compare your actual information with available insurance companies.

Your Vehicle

Two vehicles can produce very different insurance prices, even when the driver and coverage are similar.

Your Driving Record

Tickets and at-fault accidents can affect your price and the insurance companies available to you.

Your Postal Code

Auto insurance prices can differ between Chatham-Kent postal-code areas, but your address is only one part of the quote.

Your Driving Experience

Licensing history and years of driving experience can have a major impact on auto insurance pricing.

How You Use Your Vehicle

Your commute, annual kilometres and business or personal use can affect how an insurer prices your vehicle.

Your Coverage Options

Removing coverage can reduce the premium, but it can also leave you responsible for damage to your own vehicle.

Your Deductible

A higher deductible may reduce your premium, but it also increases what you may need to pay after a covered claim.

Your Available Discounts

The right combination of discounts can reduce your premium without forcing you to remove important coverage.

Compare Chatham-Kent Car Insurance Quotes

Fred Pletsch can compare available insurance companies, review your coverage and check the discounts that may apply to your household.

How to Read These Insurance Examples

Illustrative Quote Comparisons

The vehicle, driving record, driving experience, vehicle use, coverage, deductible and discount cards use illustrative insurance examples. They are intended to demonstrate how changing a rating or coverage detail can affect a premium. They are not advertised starting prices, guaranteed premiums or personalized quotes for every Chatham-Kent driver.

Some comparisons keep the described vehicle and coverage similar while changing the highlighted factor. Other comparisons may also involve different insurer pricing or discount eligibility. They should therefore be used as educational examples rather than as a precise prediction of how much one individual change will affect every policy.

Local Postal-Code Examples

The postal-code card uses observed annual costs per vehicle from Reliable Insurance Brokers customers. The Wallaceburg N8A figures use 4 valid personal auto policy groups and 5 vehicle exposures. The Chatham N7M figures use 3 valid personal auto policy groups and 4 vehicle exposures.

The represented policy effective dates range from June 1, 2025 to May 16, 2026. These are different customer groups with different drivers, vehicles, insurers, coverage limits, deductibles, claims histories, discounts, annual kilometres and household arrangements. The observed difference cannot be attributed to postal code alone, and the small samples can change materially when a policy is added or removed.

Your Actual Quote May Be Different

Your actual premium may be higher or lower depending on your complete address, vehicle, vehicle identification number, licensed drivers, driving and insurance history, convictions, accidents, claims, commute, annual kilometres, vehicle use, parking, coverage, deductibles, endorsements, household vehicles, discounts, insurer eligibility and underwriting rules.

Insurance information on this page is provided for general educational purposes. Review your own quote, application, declarations page, endorsements and policy wording with a licensed insurance professional before changing coverage or relying on a discount.

Your Insurance Score Could Affect Your Home Insurance Cost in Chatham-Kent

Many homeowners, condo owners and tenants do not realize that some property insurers may use a credit-based insurance score , with your permission, when pricing home, condo or tenant insurance. Depending on the insurer and your individual profile, this may help you qualify for a more competitive premium.

If you have been with the same insurance company for several years, it may be worth comparing your Chatham-Kent home, condo or tenant insurance before renewal. Your current insurer may not have insurance score consent on file, or the information used when the policy was first quoted may not reflect an improved credit profile.

Your insurance score is only one part of the price. Claims history, rebuilding cost, deductible choices, available discounts, sewer backup and overland water coverage , qualifying monitored alarm and home safety features , as well as mortgage-free status , can also affect the final premium.

Chatham-Kent Home Insurance Costs

Average Home Insurance Costs Among Our Chatham-Kent Customers

Across our represented Chatham-Kent customers in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Tilbury with home, condo, tenant or related residential insurance, the average cost was approximately $1,847 per year , or about $154 per month .

A house normally costs more to insure than a condo or rental unit because a homeowners policy may need to protect the building itself, along with your belongings, liability and additional living expenses. To make the comparison more useful, we have shown an estimated home insurance average separately from the lower-cost policies most likely to be condo or tenant insurance.

Why Your Home Insurance Quote May Be Higher or Lower

Your actual price depends on your property and the protection you choose. Fred can compare the full policy, not just the annual premium.

Your Home and Rebuild Details

Property size, age, construction, roof, heating, plumbing, renovations and local rebuilding costs can affect the amount needed to insure the house. Learn why rebuild cost and replacement coverage should be reviewed carefully.

Water Protection and Claims

Previous claims, basement exposure, sump pumps, backwater valves, deductibles and sewer backup and overland water coverage can all influence the price and protection offered.

Discounts and Household Policies

Claims-free history, home safety systems, mortgage-free status, insurance score eligibility and combining home and auto may create savings. Review the Insurance Savings Hub to see which discounts may be worth asking Fred about.

These Are Local Customer Averages, Not Starting Prices

Your quote may be higher or lower based on your exact property, location, occupancy, rebuilding cost, claims, coverage, deductible, discounts and insurer eligibility. The best way to know what your home, condo or tenant insurance will cost is to compare quotes using your own information.

About This Local Dataset

These figures were calculated from Reliable Insurance Brokers’ customer data for residential insurance households whose cleaned city fields were Chatham, Wallaceburg or Tilbury. These communities are within the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The results use 8 residential insurance households with positive, valid habitational premiums. Those households held 10 valid habitational policy groups because one Chatham household and one Tilbury household each had two residential policies.

The effective dates represented in the dataset range from to .

The broader Fred Pletsch service area also includes Blenheim, Bothwell, Thamesville and other Chatham-Kent communities. Those locations were not added to this residential cost study because the cleaned source did not contain qualifying residential insurance households for them.

How the Home and Condo or Tenant Estimates Were Created

The source data identifies these policies broadly as Habitational and does not consistently identify whether each policy is for a detached home, townhouse, condominium or tenant. To create a more useful consumer comparison, annual residential premium totals below $550 per household were treated as more likely to be condo or tenant insurance. Annual residential premium totals of $550 or more were treated as more likely to be home insurance.

This classification is an estimate. It may not correctly identify every individual policy and should not be treated as a formal policy-type classification.

Complete Postal-Area Breakdown

The following table combines all valid home, condo, tenant and related residential policies within each represented forward sortation area. Every row is based on a small number of households and should be interpreted cautiously.

Residential Insurance Premiums by Represented Chatham-Kent Postal Area
Community Postal Area Residential Households Average Annual Premium
Chatham N7L 1 $3,787.00
Chatham N7M 3 $816.67
Wallaceburg N8A 2 $2,111.50
Tilbury N0P 2 $2,157.00
Combined All Listed Areas 8 $1,846.75

Why the Community and Postal-Area Results Differ

The Chatham sample contains two lower-cost residential policies that were classified as more likely to be condo or tenant insurance. The Wallaceburg and Tilbury samples contain only policies classified as more likely to be home insurance. This difference in policy mix is one reason the community averages should not be treated as a ranking of which area is cheaper.

Chatham N7L is represented by one household, while Wallaceburg and Tilbury are represented by only two households each. One additional policy could materially change any of these displayed averages.

Calculation Method

Habitational premiums were grouped separately from auto insurance. Duplicate policy lines belonging to the same valid habitational policy group were consolidated, and each positive annual policy premium was counted once. Where a household held more than one valid habitational policy, the premiums were combined into that household’s residential premium total.

The overall, community and postal-area averages were calculated by dividing the combined valid residential premium by the applicable number of residential households.

Records Excluded From the Website Figures

Blank premiums, zero-dollar premiums, negative or reversal premiums, rows where the policy number contained the word QUOTE, and rows outside valid habitational insurance were excluded.

Important Limitations

The entire residential sample contains only eight households. The estimated home group contains six households, and the estimated condo or tenant group contains two. These results can change significantly when one policy or household is added or removed.

These are not standardized quotes for identical properties. The policies represented may involve different property types, rebuilding costs, locations, construction, ages, roofs, plumbing, heating systems, occupancy, claims histories, coverage limits, deductibles, water endorsements, insurance scores, discounts and insurers.

The community and postal-area figures describe Reliable Insurance Brokers’ local customer data. They are not official market averages and should not be used to determine the isolated effect of a community or postal code.

Actual premiums may be higher or lower depending on the property, applicant, coverage choices, insurer eligibility and underwriting requirements.

New to Chatham-Kent Auto Insurance

Moving to Chatham-Kent? Bring Your Driving and Insurance History

If you are moving to Chatham-Kent from another province, the United States or another country, the documents you bring may help some insurance companies recognize your previous driving and insurance experience. Whether you are settling in Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury or another Chatham-Kent community, try to collect your driving abstract, previous insurance letters, claims history, licence documents and policy details before requesting a quote.

Our New to Ontario Auto Insurance Guide explains what to collect, how previous insurance experience may affect your first Ontario quote and why licence-exchange documents are not always the same as the records an insurance company needs. Fred Pletsch can review your situation before you spend money ordering or translating records that may not help with the available insurers.

Driving Abstract Letters of Experience Claims History Policy Dates and Details Licence Documents

Insurance Quote Documents and Licence-Exchange Documents Are Different

A letter from a previous insurer may help an insurance company recognize your prior insurance history, but Ontario licence-exchange documents generally need to come from accepted licensing or government sources. The two processes may require different records.

Before paying for driving records, insurance letters, certified documents or translations, ask Fred which records are likely to help with the insurance companies available to you.

Make Sure Your Previous Experience Is Being Recognized

A clean driving record can still be priced differently from one insurance company to another. Fred can review how much prior driving and insurance history each available insurer may recognize and whether another company may rate your experience more favourably. Chatham-Kent Auto Insurance FAQs

How much does auto insurance cost in Chatham-Kent?

Among the represented Chatham-Kent customers in our local study, the average auto insurance cost was approximately $2,423 per insured vehicle per year, or about $202 per month. Some customers paid less, while others paid considerably more.

The lowest one-vehicle customer example was approximately $1,447 per year. This is one customer example, not an advertised starting price or an amount that will be available to every Chatham-Kent driver.

Your actual premium depends on your complete address, vehicle, drivers, insurance history, claims, convictions, coverage, deductibles, annual kilometres, vehicle use and available discounts. Review our Chatham-Kent car and household insurance cost comparison for more local examples and complete data notes.

Does my Chatham-Kent postal code affect my car insurance rate?

Yes. Insurance companies can consider your complete address, their own rating territories, local claims experience and other location-related information when pricing auto insurance. Moving between Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury or another Chatham-Kent community can therefore change how different insurers price your vehicle.

Your address is only one part of the quote. Your vehicle, driving history, claims, annual kilometres, commute, parking, coverage, deductibles and discounts also matter. Review our Chatham-Kent postal-code auto insurance data or use the Ontario Postal Code Affordability Tool as a general reference before requesting a personalized quote.

Is auto insurance mandatory in Chatham-Kent?

Yes. A vehicle driven on public roads in Chatham-Kent must have valid Ontario auto insurance. Required Ontario protection includes third-party liability coverage, statutory accident benefits and uninsured automobile coverage.

Direct Compensation-Property Damage coverage, commonly called DCPD, is included unless you elect in writing not to recover under it. Because removing DCPD can leave you responsible for damage-related costs that otherwise might have been covered, you should understand the financial risk before making that decision.

Our Ontario auto liability coverage guide explains the foundation of an Ontario auto insurance policy.

What changed with Ontario auto insurance accident benefits in 2026?

As of July 1, 2026, standard medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits remain mandatory accident benefits. Other benefits can be optional, including income replacement, non-earner, caregiver, housekeeping and home maintenance, lost educational expenses, visitor expenses, damage to certain personal items, death and funeral benefits.

Existing policies generally renew with the same selected coverage and limits unless changes are agreed to in writing. A new or revised quote, however, may provide less protection if optional accident benefits have not been selected.

Fred can help you compare both the price and the coverage before you make a decision. Read our Ontario Optional Accident Benefits Guide for a more complete explanation.

How can I lower my auto insurance premium in Chatham-Kent?

Chatham-Kent drivers may be able to reduce their premiums by maintaining a clean driving record, accurately reporting their commute and annual kilometres, installing approved winter tires, combining household vehicles, bundling home and auto insurance, reviewing deductibles and checking whether group or occupation discounts apply.

The best savings opportunities vary by driver and insurance company. Review our Chatham-Kent winter tire discount information and visit the Insurance Savings Learning Hub to explore available auto and home insurance discounts.

Fred can review the whole household rather than relying on one general discount or reducing important coverage simply to lower the premium.

Is it cheaper to bundle home and auto insurance?

Often, but not always. Many insurance companies offer a discount when your home, condo or tenant insurance and auto insurance are placed together. Households with more than one vehicle may also qualify for a multi-vehicle discount.

Fred can compare the total household cost and confirm that the property and auto policies still provide appropriate coverage. The lowest auto price by itself may not produce the lowest overall household insurance cost.

You can also review the Chatham-Kent home insurance section or request a home insurance quote with Fred .

Can Chatham-Kent Health Alliance employees receive a group discount?

Eligible Chatham-Kent Health Alliance employees may qualify for an exclusive 23% auto insurance discount through Reliable Insurance Brokers. Program eligibility, driver eligibility, coverage requirements and insurance company underwriting rules still apply.

Contact Fred and mention that you work for CKHA so he can confirm your eligibility and compare the employee program with the other available insurance options.

Visit the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance employee insurance page for more information about the program.

Can Fred help if I am moving to Ontario from another province or country?

Yes. Previous driving and insurance documents may help some insurance companies recognize your experience. Useful records can include a driving abstract, letters from previous insurers, policy dates, claims history and government-issued licensing documents.

Insurance-company requirements and Ontario licence-exchange requirements are not always the same. Review the driving and insurance documents section on this page and our New to Ontario Auto Insurance Guide before ordering or translating documents.

Fred can review which records are most likely to help with the insurance companies available for your quote.

Why should I compare auto insurance companies?

Insurance companies do not all price the same driver, vehicle, address or coverage combination the same way. One company may be more competitive for an experienced driver, while another may offer better pricing for a particular vehicle, household bundle, group program or coverage selection.

The insurer used most often by other Chatham-Kent customers will not automatically be the least expensive or best insurer for you. Review the Chatham-Kent insurer placement data and the insurance companies available through Reliable Insurance Brokers .

Fred can explain the important differences in premium, coverage, liability limits, deductibles, accident benefits, endorsements and discounts before you choose a policy.
